Athena® (Ulipristal Acetate) is an emergency contraceptive (EC) pill that prevents unwanted pregnancy. It is an orally active synthetic selective progesterone receptor modulator (SPRM) that acts via high-affinity binding to the human progesterone receptor. Its primary mechanism of action is the inhibition or delay of ovulation.

Athena® (Ulipristal Acetate) is indicated for emergency contraception within 120 hours (5 days) of unprotected sexual intercourse or contraceptive failure.

Take one 30 mg Athena® (Ulipristal Acetate) tablet as soon as possible but no later than 120 hours after unprotected intercourse or contraceptive failure, with or without food.
If vomiting occurs within 3 hours of intake, another tablet should be taken.
Athena® can be taken at any time during the menstrual cycle.

Ulipristal Acetate is contraindicated in cases of:
Hypersensitivity to the active substance.
Existing pregnancy.

Existing Pregnancy: Athena® (Ulipristal Acetate) is not indicated for the termination of an existing pregnancy.
Ectopic Pregnancy: A history of ectopic pregnancy is not a contraindication to using this emergency contraceptive.
Repeated Use: Athena® (Ulipristal Acetate) is for occasional emergency use and should not replace regular contraception.
Repeated use within the same menstrual cycle is not recommended.
Effect on Menstrual Cycle: After taking Ulipristal Acetate, menstruation may occur earlier or later than expected by a few days.
Intermenstrual bleeding was reported in 9% of women studied.
No studies have evaluated the effect of hepatic or renal disease on Ulipristal Acetate metabolism.

The most common side effects include:
Headache, nausea, abdominal pain, dysmenorrhea, fatigue, dizziness, and breast tenderness.

Contraindicated in suspected or existing pregnancy.
Ulipristal Acetate is excreted in breast milk, so breastfeeding is not recommended for one week after intake.

Ulipristal Acetate interacts with the following drugs:
Barbiturates, Carbamazepine, Phenobarbital, Rifampicin, Itraconazole, Ketoconazole, etc.

Experience with Ulipristal Acetate overdose is limited.

Store at a temperature not exceeding 30°C in a dry place.
Protect from light and moisture.
